This past quarter, I studied under Dr. Andrew deWaard, who led a special studies class in communications. He is writing a book, Derivative Media, which analyzes the entrance of financial industries into the film, television, and music industries. The impact of this on the climate change narrative cannot be understated. This zine serves as an overview tracing how capitalism affects our stories and how they then affect our imagination.
Shout out to Dr. deWaard for allowing me to complete this class with a zine! Also, thanks to Professor Verdicchio and Leslie Meyer for inspiring a lot of the ideas for this project! Several thanks to my good friend J Xiang for much assistance and late night calls.
